Who we are,
what we do

Located in Ventura County, California, Life After Brain Injury is an Independent Living-based, post-medical nonprofit for survivors and their families who want to improve their quality of life, after brain injury has turned their lives upside down.

LABI's primary goals are to provide support, hope and understanding, and to assist with integration in the community.
We provide information, education and training in independent living skills, so that survivors can learn to live with a disability (and often multiple disabilities at once).

We also help people with brain injury discover productive and personally satisfying activities that can lead to a more self-directed and meaningful life -- in other words, one that makes them want to get up each day.

Folks who participate in LABI's meetings and activities feel a true sense of belonging as they connect with others who understand what they have gone or are going through.

We also train survivors to understand and respectfully exercise their disability rights and to fulfill their responsibilities as contributing members of society.

Every day, people with brain injuries endure societal attitudes that range from indifference to outright exclusion
. LABI staff, survivors and caregivers work to eliminate the stigma associated with brain injury and to raise awareness that each person has inherent worth and value.
